Got trees? Learn more about forest disease | Business
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
From Lane County Extension
Dr. Dave Shaw, Forest Health Specialist at Oregon State University, will be in Lane County on March 6 to discuss some of the major insect and disease epidemics impacting forests in Oregon.
These include two non-native diseases (sudden oak death and Port-Orford-cedar root disease) and a native foliage disease of Douglas-fir called Swiss needle cast.
He’ll also discuss mountain pine beetle, pine butterfly and western spruce budworm.
Dr. Shaw will help forest landowners and others interested in forests think about the long term implications of, and management options for, these diseases and explain the degree to which they pose threats to local forests.
The workshop is tailored to woodland owners and managers, but is open to the public.
Nursery managers may also be interested, as sudden oak death impacts a wide range of ornamental plants and nurseries must take precautions to prevent its spread.
The event will be held at the National Guard Armory in Springfield from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 6, and costs $25 per person ($40 per couple).
Advance registration is required – see http://extension.oregonstate.edu/lane/forestry for details and online registration, or call the Lane County OSU Extension Office at 541-344-5859.
