OCF awards $25K to Fern Ridge Service Center

The City of Veneta announced the receipt of a $25,000 grant from the John and Jane Youell and the Florence V. Barnhart Funds of the Oregon Community Foundation.

The funds were officially released to the City on January 9, 2011 after the Oregon Community Foundation received word that the City successfully received the $1.5 million Community Development Block Grant funds from the Oregon Business Development Department.

These funds will be used towards the construction of the new Fern Ridge Service Center in downtown Veneta.

The Jane Youell and the Florence V. Barnhart Funds, are in addition to funding from the John Gray Charitable Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, The Ford Family Foundation, and many other private donors and local fundraising.

With most of the funding in place the City is now able to work on the Environmental Review Report for the project. Once this report is complete and approved, the City and Fern Ridge Service Center Partners will move forward with final design and construction activities.

The Fern Ridge Service Center and its affiliate programs serve an area of 479 square miles with a population of about 25,000 people. They provide the area's senior and low-income populations with critical health, welfare, and basic human needs.
